BEST TIME TO PLANT: Now, Today, Tomorrow, any month! Our potted fortuniana rootstock roses are actually grown in pots. Therefore, it's a simple matter to plant our roses which are specifically grown for Florida soil and climate. Since they are never "bare root" any day is the best day to plant!

Where to Plant: For the best results, bigger plants and more blooms, plant roses where they will get at least six hours of sunlight per day. Plant roses at least 4' apart to allow proper air flow.

Ingredients for planting: The following ingredients are for one rose bush.
1. One cubic ft. of organic compost ("Earth Food")
2. One cubic ft. of good soil (Scrivner's potting soil) or black cow.
3. One cubic ft. of native soil (your existing soil ) This is important!
4. One cup of bone meal
5. 1/4 cup of Super phosphate.
Mix all of these together well.

HOW TO PLANT:

1. Water rose thoroughly, with Ferti-lome Root Stimulator in its pot, before planting (again one week later)
2. Dig a hole approximately 12" deep and 24" wide (don't cheat)
3. Fill hole approximately 1/2 full with mixed soil.
4. Place one hand across the top of the pot and turn the rose upside down and place the other hand on the bottom of the pot and gently remove rose.
5. Place rose in center of hole and make sure soil in pot is level with existing grade. (Never Cover Stem and Graft.)
6. Place your mixed soil around the rose until the hole is filled.
7. Water slowly and make sure all of the air is out of the hole. You may need to add more soil after watering.
8. Now is a good time to stake your rose by using a 3/4 rebar approximately 4' long.
9. Carefully tie your rose with a soft cloth or plastic garden tie. Do not use anything that will cut into the rose cane.

FERTILIZING YOUR ROSES:
You can start feeding your rose three weeks after planting. Feed the following amount:
1. 1/2 cup every 3 weeks for 3 months.
2. 1 cup every 3 weeks for the next 3 months
3. 1-1/2 cups every 3 weeks for the life of your rose.
Use a quality rose food like Scrivner's special (12-6-8), or Ferti-lome Rose Food (follow directions on Ferti-lome Rose Food) Water soluble fertilizers such as: Fish Emulsion, Ferti-lome Acid loving and Ferti-lome all purpose make excellent supplementary fertilizers. They make your roses healthier with fuller foliage and enhance blooming. Supplements such as Root Stimulator and Super Thrive should be used twice a year to insure root growth for your rose.

Rose Spray Program Important:

Roses need to be sprayed every 7 days to help prevent diseases (black spot) and insects. Rotating between a combination of two or more fungicides and insecticides will provide better control.

We recommend for Diseases: Halt, Banner, Rosepride, Dithane M-45, Maneb
Insects: Dormant Oil, Acephate, Thuricide
We feel that the combination of 1 insecticide and 2 fungicides give us the best results.
For example: Scrivner's preferred mixture is 3 tbsp. Dormant Oil, 1 tbsp Dithane M- 45, and Rosepride all mixed together in the same sprayer.

1. Fill your sprayer 1/2 full with water.
2. Shake chemicals well before putting into the sprayer.
3. Add chemicals, fill sprayer until full, shake sprayer well before spraying and frequently during spraying.

When spraying make sure you stay approximately 12-14" away from rose and spray with a fine mist. The finer the mist the better.

1. Spray every 7 days.
2. Spray when the wind is calm.
3. Spray either in the morning after the dew has gone, or late in the afternoon when there is not any rain in the forecast.
4. Spray under the leaves as well as the top of the leaves.
5. Complete coverage is very important.
6. If you have a bad case of Black Spot or Mildew, You should spray every 3 days until the problem is under control.
7. You should pick off all the leaves with Black Spot and remove them from your rose garden.
8. Do not drop the bad leaves in the rose garden because they will cause more Black Spot or Fungus to form.

KEEP YOUR ROSES HEALTHY

Roses under stress will tend to have more diseases and fungus.

STRESS CAN BE CAUSED FROM:
1. Not enough food
2. Not enough water
3. Too much water
4. pH out of balance
5. Transplant shock .
